Bondi dawn

A surprise anniversary present for a former pro-surfer, this picture brings the Bondi boy home.

The brief was all about the key scenes in a keen waterman’s formative years - the Icebergs pool and Bondi surf breaks at dawn. Sketches, collage and conversations helped hone in on the final composition. The image is rendered in thick oil paint applied with palette knife for a rich textured surface. A nice final detail is the board under his arm - a signature custom design marking his time at the top of the surfing world.
